The Overnight Myth of Alternative Energies

I was just thinking about the energy issues facing our Country today. With the Ukraine war going on, and the policies of the current administration, the people of the US are facing higher an higher gas prices. What I find amazing is the response the far left have given for these higher prices and what we are going to have to do to reduce those numbers. It primarily rests around the policies and regulations of this administration toward American energy. In 2019, America was self sufficient when it came to our energy needs and uses. Biden shutdown enough of this energy sufficiency with stopping a pipeline and stopping most drilling on public lands. To replace the energy loss he created with his regulations, he encouraged export countries like Russia to sell us more oil at higher prices. The prices of our domestic gasoline went up by about a dollar a gallon. Now, with the Russian/Ukrainian War, prices are expected to go up a lot more.

When the far left sees these prices going higher and higher, they celebrate. They think by driving prices up more and more they will be able to eliminate fossil fuels in our society, and force Americans to look for alternatives for energy needs. Simple plan by simple minds. So, let's see what we need to do to move toward alternative fuels. Electric vehicles with enough power to go 50-60 mph for about 250-300 miles before needing another charge is one option. Solar generated power and wind power are other options to create and store energy in batteries. However, there is no real discussion about nuclear generated power, which is probably the cleanest power generated by any other option.

So let's take a look at what our World would be like if we immediately stop using fossil fuels for energy. Electric cars with a range of 300 miles is going to need charging stations scattered throughout the Country. Most charging station access their base power from the grid, which is generated with fossil fuels. Wind power needs a lot more wind in our lives that we can stand to provide a significant power generation. Solar power could be helpful if it was installed on every roof in America and added to the existing grid. However, the price of one photovoltaic panel is about $1000, which is about 10 times the cost of the panel to build, and you still have to pay for the processing equipment to make the power usable. Solar companies are gouging the public because the government is offering tax credits and incentives to folks that will install solar power. It is just too expensive for the regular energy user.

Bottomline is we can't eliminate fossil fuels today or even in the next 20 years is my guess. Cars and electrical needs are just a fraction of fossil fuel use in our World. How many people would have to change their home heating systems to move from natural gas to electric and how much more electrical needs will we need to handle that change? Do you have anything in your home and lives that is made of plastics? The base for plastics is oil. Do you cook with natural gas or propane? So, the average home and family with natural gas in heating, cooking and hot water is going to have to replace it all with electrical appliances, as well as buying extremely expensive electric cars. Oh, and by the way, if you have a RV or pull trailers for work, you won't be able to do that until they come up with something powerful enough to pull those things up and down hills.

I don't know anyone that wouldn't accept alternative energy technology is it was as efficient and effective as fossil fuel energy, and affordable to the common people of this Country. However, moving to alternative fuels without these new technologies available and affordable is just plain stupid. The impacts of fossil fuels on our lives and economy are just too much to be eliminated overnight. Those Pollyanna folks hell bent on stopping all fossil fuels this week, will also buy your bridge you have for sale.
