America's Open Borders

I was just thinking about the fiasco going on at our southern border. You might ask yourself the question as to why this is such a problem? Why are thousands, millions of people flocking to our border to enter illegally? Who are the people illegally entering America? What can we do to control this illegal migration to America? All questions the government has dodged in order to keep the flow of people coming.

The main reason why we have this border problem is because it has been hyper politicized to the point that one party doesn't want anything the other party put in place to be successful. They also believe all the illegal migration to America will result in more votes and support for them. If you go even deeper, you find that open borders is a Marxist principle embraced by the liberal left in America. The thousands and thousands of non-American citizens coming to our border are there because the left has put the word out that if they can get to our border and cross, they can stay in the land of freedom and prosperity.

The people illegally entering America are from all over the World. We used to believe the large majority of the illegal immigrants entering America were from Central American countries. We now are seeing folks from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean as well as, Central and South America. Large groups of Haitians and Venezuela have shown up at the border and continue to today. They are seeing family units, single men, and unaccompanied children arriving daily at the border. Most are giving themselves up immediately after being detained by authorities. However, a significant number of the single men are doing whatever they need to do to not get detained. They are called "getaways".

Until we do several things as a society and Country, we will not be able to control illegal entry into the United States, plain and simple. First, we need a government that makes it clear that entering the United State illegally will result in immediate deportation with no future opportunity for legal entry. Second, we need to finish the wall on the border to allow for a controlled entry at designated places only. Thirdly, the US Congress needs to get its head rearranged back to its normal position and pass realistic immigration reform laws. Finally, we need to rethink our foreign aide policies for Central America, and help those countries make it better for their citizens so they don't want to come to America illegally.

When I was a kid growing up in the Central Valley farmland of California, I remember the Mexican Farm Laborer Camps that housed the families that came to work the crops from Mexico. It was called the Braceros Program, and the families would come to work and go home at the end of the season. My grand parents had a camp on their small farm where some of these families stayed. I virtually grew up with the kids from the farm labor camps. Along came Caesar Chavez, who established the Farm Laborers Union and virtually killed the Braceros Program. From that point on, farm laborers were either high priced union members or illegals now sneaking into the Country to work. I have and always will be empathetic to the real family units trying to get to America and freedom. We need to reform the system to allow these families to legally enter and simulate into our culture. If there is a wall with gates the families can come to the gate and enter with a legal system that allows that. The drug cartels, gangs, traffickers, terrorists, and those wishing harm to Americans, can be controlled and returned to where they come from. Bottomline for the border is to de-politicize it and complete a realistic immigration reform law.
